Masks across the world,
sold out today.
Yet one single mask
has been worn thirty years this way.
It shadows every step,
from campus to faraway lands.
It blocks neither smog nor haze,
nor stops COVID at hand.
But on it is stamped a warning,
a harsh, unyielding ban:
Guard the mouth above all,
more than the flood at all.
